Wrestler embarks on an international journey to developing nations, capturing the transformative stories of Manaaki scholar alumni who are making waves and changing lives in their home countries.
The Manaaki Scholarship Programme opens doors for individuals from developing nations to study in New Zealand. This initiative not only supports their academic pursuits but also fosters cross-cultural connections and drives long-term economic, environmental, and social impact in these nations.
The programme has always attracted a large number of applicants, but not everyone was quite the right fit. To address this, MFAT and ENZ decided to spotlight what makes an ideal applicant. And what better way to do that than with a video? It’s a smart move to get the message across loud and clear!
Wrestler stepped in to document the stories of Manaaki scholars in New Zealand. These narratives highlight how these scholars have defied expectations and pursued studies that lead to careers positively impacting their home countries.
Filming the current scholars was just the beginning—so ENZ and MFAT asked Wrestler a thought-provoking question: “What if we extended this narrative to Manaaki Scholarship alumni and captured their stories IN their home countries?”
To keep things rad and consistent, Wrestler hit the road to Laos, Indonesia, Tonga, and the Solomon Islands, capturing the unique stories of individuals from each country. It was no easy task, juggling permissions and logistics along the way!
Incredible and powerful stories were shared, friends were made, unforgettable memories were created, and some truly beautiful content was captured.
From there, Wrestler rolled out a suite of stills, hero videos and cutdowns for events and social media, including outputs for international posts to promote the scholarships.
This has led to higher-quality applicants for the scholarship programme and, ultimately, contributes to strengthening international communities and relationships.
