Documentary series shines a light on forgotten NZ social issues

Frame showreel
Frame showreel

Frame is a cinematic short documentary series exploring current affairs and contemporary life in Aotearoa.

The brainchild of Wrestler Studios, the series was funded by New Zealand on Air and is exclusively housed on The Spinoff. Each episode in Frame’s two seasons was crafted by a different emerging NZ filmmaker and centered on social, cultural or environmental issues that mainstream media doesn’t have time or budgets to focus on.

After premiering on The Spinoff website, the initial eight episodes ignited conversation and were widely shared, leading to the creation of six more episodes in season two.

Topics include a kaupapa Māori mental health service provider that is combining tohunga-led spiritual and cultural therapy and clinical methods, a cannabis co-op looking to revitalise Ruatōria, a disused paper mill on the edge of disaster, and a look at how Chlöe Swarbrick turned the Auckland Central electorate Green.
